Healthy Food Delivery: Chopstick Diner Review

Couple months back I decided to give one of these healthy food delivery services a go. Healthy food delivery services have evolved so much and there are so many options out there nowadays. Most require one to 2 days or even longer pre-order notice for them to prepare your food.

The reason that I flicked my switch to try it was because I was caught up in events for the past two months and getting home I just didn't felt like doing anything, hence, I didn't bothered preparing my meals but then, I still want to eat clean! Ugghh.. conflicted...

So among all the fishes in the sea, the one that caught my eye was Chopstick Diner.

So upon first impression, what was it that caught my attention?
  1. I can place my order a day before delivery date as long as it is before 10pm.
  2. The simplicity of the ingredients
  3. Interested to try their homemade sauces
  4. The vibrancy of the meal itself

Priced at RM16.00 per lunchbox, I ordered 3 boxes to try. For orders above RM50.00 they offer free delivery provided it is within their delivery area, for orders below RM50.000, there is a delivery surcharge of RM5.00. I was also charged with an additional RM15.00 because my office's postal code does not fall within their delivery area which is 46000 - 46200. Averaging it out, it costed RM22.00 per meal.

My meal arrived around 11am the next day. It arrived packaged with a note from Elaine Ho (the founder of Chopstick Diner) and each box comes with wooden chopsticks nicely tucked into a paper pocket.

Lunchboxes should be refrigerated at all times and consumed within 24 hours of receiving them.

Okay, so what did I order?

HALF HALF

This was my first choice because I get to choose and try two types of meals in one lunchbox. Half of the lunch box are 2 Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls (each cut to halves) and the other half your choice of salad from their menu. I chose the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad.

Ingredients:
Salad: Lettuce, Parmesan cheese, beef bacon bits, croutons, 1 whole egg, grilled chicken and homemade caesar dressing.
Vietnamese rolls: Rice vermecelli, grilled chicken, carrots, purple cabbage, lettuce, capsicum.

Verdict:
Salad: The ingredients were very fresh indeed. The lettuce were crisp and crunchy. You know how some croutons has the oily aftertaste but these croutons werent like that. The homemade dressing is liken to mayo texture but definitely less fattening. Glad that they separated the salad sauce so that I am able to add according to my liking.
Vietnamese rolls: The Vietnamese rolls were fresh and compact. It is to be paired with their homemade sauce which was paired well together plus it is spicy too.

ROASTED EGGPLANT AND PUMPKIN SALAD WITH TAHINI DRESSING

Ingredients:
Lettuce, roasted eggplant and pumpkin, pomegranate jewels and homemade Tahini dressing.

Verdict:
The pumpkin was really soft and it added a natural sweet flavour to the salad. I really liked the Tahini dressing at first as it adds the rich flavour to everything (the roasted eggplant was not seasoned), but half way through my meal, I felt that the Tahini dressing was too overpowering and was a little too creamy for my liking.

SMOKED SALMON CAESAR SALAD

Ingredients:
Lettuce, parmesan cheese, croutons, egg, smoked salmon and salad dressing.

Verdict:
The ingredients are basically the same as per the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. Instead of chicken, it's replaced with Smoked Salmon. The smoked salmon paired well with the salad dressing as well. Though I hoped that they would've given more smoked salmon (I was given one sheet of salmon slice)

Overall, aside the steep pricing, the taste is not bad. Besides the fresh ingredients, the homemade salad dressing was definitely the highlight of my meal. Salads are low cal meals, I am not so much of a salad kind of person as I prefer more wholesome and high protein meal. If you're looking for fast, healthy meals, no harm giving Chopstick Diner a go.
